Beirut_(dpa) _ The Lebanese army
arrested on Monday arrested "a group people" allegedly involved
in vandalizing vehicles belonging to United Nations Interim Forces in southern
Lebanon (UNIFIL), a Lebanese security source said.
Unknown assailants earlier Monday slashed the tyres of several vehicles belonging to the UNIFIL employees in the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre, the source said.
The incident was being investigated by the Lebanese army and UNIFIL, according to UN spokesman Andrea Tennetti.
UNIFIL is based in the border town of Naquora, about 20 kilometres south of Tyre, where the peacekeeping force also has offices.
UNIFIL has monitored the country's southern border with Israel since 1978. Its troop levels swelled to 13,000 in the aftermath of the July 2006 war between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement. dpa wh mga
